- Family / tradition
- Functional / ML / lazy, Lisp
- Maturity
- Stable niche
- Ecosystem breadth
- Focused
A stable distribution and long-lived tools justify Stable niche. Its substantial language-building ecosystem is specialized rather than industry-wide general application coverage.
Industry & practical use
Language design, DSLs, education and developer tools are especially strong fits. Web and GUI libraries also exist, with a smaller adoption base than mainstream application stacks.
Compilers, libraries & tooling
DrRacket, the package system, documentation tools and syntax facilities form an integrated environment. Typed Racket is a separate typed language within the distribution.
Platforms & deployment
- General toolchains
- Linux, Windows, macOS
- Specialized tooling
- None catalogued
- Native cross-compilation
- Restricted / involved
The distribution supports major desktop/server systems. GUI and native package dependencies can constrain deployment.
Cross-building distributions or executables requires platform-specific support; it is not interchangeable with ordinary same-host packaging.
Project health & support
The Racket project has sustained academic and community support. Core continuity is strong, while individual packages have independent maintainers.

History & origin
Racket grew from PLT Scheme, begun in 1995, and adopted the Racket name in 2010. It developed a larger language platform rather than remaining simply another Scheme implementation.

- Origin
- 1995 — PLT Scheme project origin; renamed Racket in 2010.

Implementation notes
- Dynamic describes ordinary Racket; Static refers to Typed Racket. The two should not be confused with one uniformly statically typed language.
