Stable compiler releases and sustained independent use in browser applications, services and developer tools support Established and Broad. JavaScript interoperability is backed by substantial TypeScript-specific tooling, not merely assumed compatibility.
Industry & practical use
TypeScript is used for browser applications, web backends and shared JavaScript libraries, especially where static checking helps maintain a larger codebase. It can participate in Electron and React Native applications through their JavaScript execution environments.
Compilers, libraries & tooling
The TypeScript compiler and language service provide checking, editor integration and JavaScript output. It shares JavaScript’s package ecosystem rather than introducing a separate application runtime. Library declarations and framework integrations determine how much type information is available.
Platforms & deployment

- Linux, Windows, macOS, Browser
- Specialized tooling
- Android, iOS
- Browser execution
- JavaScript
- Native cross-compilation
- Not the usual deployment model
Generated JavaScript runs in browsers and server runtimes on Linux, Windows and macOS. Native mobile applications need a framework such as React Native. TypeScript types do not create extra runtime platform capabilities or validate external data automatically.
TypeScript normally emits JavaScript rather than a native executable for a target OS/CPU. The JavaScript runtime or app framework handles deployment; native dependencies retain their own target restrictions.
Project health & support
Microsoft leads TypeScript development in public, with an open-source repository and published release announcements. Its ecosystem is also sustained by JavaScript frameworks, editors and runtime vendors. Compiler upgrades can expose new type errors even when the generated program’s runtime behavior is unchanged.

Implementation notes
- Types are erased for execution. JIT and bytecode VM entries describe the resulting JavaScript’s runtime, not the TypeScript compiler.
- any and compiler options permit less strictly checked code.
- The release shown is the announced 7.0 feature series; patch releases are not yet tracked.
